This painting’s inception was a rather abstract piece intended for a conservation minded show about Utah Lake. Despite being a theme that resonates well with me, I just could not get it to click. After a couple weeks of struggling I became fed up and took a drastic turn, creating a self portrait.
“Demon” is a very personal and unique piece for me. Made up of multiple layers of underpaintings and images, it serves as a rather complex expression of inner pain and restlessness. Every aspect of this painting was thoughtfully included to further represent my own emotional experience. While working through some difficult mental struggles, “Demon” has provided safety and solitude from my overwhelming anxiety.
Doorways into the other side, transended by ghosts and memories. Turning inward to find creation and destruction. Giving power to the one you fear.
